Dream House Inspiration

February 1st, 2010

So far I’m enjoying a relatively quiet Monday. It’s nice to have time to catch up with everything and inspired by this post (HERE) on Design Sponge that gives a sneak peek inside the home of illustrator Sanna Annukka’s home, I thought I’d post this collection of images that I’ve been building for a year or so. We’re looking to move home in the next couple of years and we’d love to make the new place a better reflection of who we are and a more inspiring place to work.

Sketchy Ideas

June 8th, 2009

I’m really trying to get into a good habit of sketching more and more at the moment. Some days however it’s hard to know where to begin. The Brainstormer is an application designed to generate random sketch topics by combining random words.

Protected Space

February 4th, 2009

Over the past two weeks I’ve really learned the value of prtotected space and the benefits it can reap for creative work. As technology moves forward however, it becomes harder and harder to get away from interuptions. Email alerts pop up on your screen instantly, your mobile phone goes off, the land line rings, someone has commented on your facebook status… the list is endless. With the growing network of wireless hotspots grows and grows of course, switching off becomes harder and harder. The need for ‘Lo-Fi’ time as Jack Cheng calls it is an essential. Of course a lot of the research and development is done through my computer but when it comes to generating ideas, I find it helpful to shut down my macbook, close the door, switch off the mobile and grab a pen and paper. You can read Jack’s article HERE, he comes up with some interesting points and solutions, one of which is boarding a cargo ship for six weeks!

The Plot

January 30th, 2009

Design agency, Airside, have published an interesting couple of articles of their blog. They provide an insight into their design process for their recent project ‘Airplot’ for Greenpeace. I love seeing other designers skethwork and thought processes but what I really love is the aviodance of using the computer and the fact that they have a ‘make & do’ room! You can read about the ideas process HERE and the rollout of the design HERE.
