Paper Jam Press

December 16th, 2009

Saw this series of letterpress posters from Paper Jam Press this morning. Have to say if I could work anywhere in the world, in terms of creative cities, right now it’s a tie between Portland and Brooklyn (where these posters are made).

I really love the reason Arianna Orland gives for creating this series:

“After spending a little too much time in front of the computer I thought I’d get back to basics and get my hands dirty. I make these posters because cutting giant stacks of paper, setting wood type and scrubbing ink off my hands feels good. Looking at them on my wall makes me happy. I hope they make you happy too.”

You can view and order them HERE.

Poster Cabaret

October 26th, 2009

I think I may need to move to a house or studio with a lot more wall space. Found the site Poster Cabaret (HERE) over the weekend. Featuring quite a few artists previously mentioned on this blog it is a great place to find hundreds of fantastic art prints and gig posters from well-known leading artists.

Details Everywhere

October 22nd, 2009

Really love these examples of poster work from J Fletcher Design, I stumbled upon them over at Graphic Exchange (HERE). I the days of reduced budgets and condensed timeframes it’s really a joy to see work that is so rich in it’s level of details giving the work real character and distinctive ‘texture’.

Half full

October 22nd, 2009

I’m currently producing a short run of booklets and have really enjoyed reading through designworklife. The blog is a part of Seamless Creative, a New York City-based design studio. The blog has some great, inspiring examples of limited edition printwork, I particularly loved these posters (HERE) by Because Studio. The ink coverage on each poster amounts to exactly 50% of the surface area.

Retro Posters

June 18th, 2009

Lucasfilm seem to be the lastest in a line of classic covers or posters being re-imagined or simplified in a retro way. I quite like these Indiana Jones ones as they seem to capture the spirit and key events of the movies whereas the starwars one seems like a pale imitation of Saul Bass’ classic works. They are available to buy as limited edition prints HERE.

Good For Your Heart

January 5th, 2009

Having had loads of postive feedback from the Raisins poster I made for Ray, we decided to make a lot of our Christmas gifts this year. From illustrations of samurais to dancing guitars, everyone seemed really happy with their very limited edition gifts (1 of 1!). I’ve decided to create a series of posters soon to go on sale (no idea how yet but keep checking the site for details) ‘Mon Favorit’ was the first in the series, followed by this one; ‘Beans, Beans’.

What A Mission Statement

January 5th, 2009

Whilst away over Christmas, I treated myself to this limited edition print by Anthony Burrill. These posters are produced using a traditional wood block letterpress process. Each one is signed by Anthony and sums up a good approach for any design agency! They are available to purchase here.

Another Typography Showcase

December 4th, 2008

I know that these kind of inspiring showcases pop up on design blogs all the time but this one caught my eye more than most. It’s also encouraging that there is so much great work happening to sustain all these inspiring galleries. The bonus for this one from DesignMag is that it has a list of loads of typography websites at the bottom of the gallery containing some real gems!
